Following on from last week’s visit to Bootle MP Joe Benton, PCS Bootle Taxes members visited Walton MP Steve Rotherham today (3o August) as a sizeable number of our members live in his constituency.
As a former PCS representative himself, Mr Rotheram was very interested in our Tax Justice For All campaign. An engaging, encouraging and sincere discussion took place and we presented Steve with a copy of Early Day Motion 211, which he agreed to sign, as well as other campaign literature including Richard Murphy’s Why are they increasing the tax gap?
We advised Mr Rotheram that PCS will be lobbying the Houses of Parliament on 17th October and the Walton MP stated his intention to attend the For A Future That Works demonstration in London on the 20th October.
Meanwhile, following an emergency meeting of the Group Executive Committee, PCS has suspended the strike action due to take place on Monday 3rd and Friday 7th September. The GEC believe this represents significant progress on our key demands and shows that the hard work of reps and members in HMRC through our Tax Justice for All campaign has paid off.
Full details of the GEC decision can be found here.
