Vote YES / YES – ballot opens tomorrow

The PCS national ballot for industrial action begins tomorrow, Friday 8 February and runs until Monday 4 March. We’ve asked for real, national negotiations but so far ministers are refusing to talk to us.

We’re focusing on a range of demands including:

  • A pay increase of £1,200 or 5% for 2013
  • An end to the pay freeze/cap
  • Scrapping plans to rip up our terms and conditions
  • An end to the raid on public sector pensions.

On Monday, PCS Bootle Taxes Branch held members meetings outside of the Triad and Litherland House to explain to members why they should vote yes for strike action and yes for action short of a strike. Next week, a branch briefing will be distributed to reinforce that message.

Action gets results

We don’t consider strike action lightly but they’re refusing to talk so we must act.

Industrial action due to take place on 4 February in the Department for Transport (DfT) has been called off after management agreed to lift the threat of hundreds of compulsory redundancy notices being served in local DVLA offices as part of their departments’ job cuts agenda.

An industrial action strategy involving innovative and well supported group wide rolling action over the past few months has secured no compulsory redundancy guarantees in the DVLA until 2014 and serious talks on sickness absence policy. While this is by no means the end of the dispute it does represent undoubted progress.

PCS members in DWP have successfully fought off plans to make 43 lower grade workers compulsory redundant following the threat of group wide industrial action. This follows PCS members in DWP saving their offices in Merseyside from closure towards the end of 2012.

If we stand together and deliver a resolute ‘yes’ vote we can force the government backwards.

If ministers continue to refuse to negotiate PCS will make plans for a series of strikes over the coming months, including full and half-days, and shorter walkouts.
