Branch elections – get involved!

pcs-marchWith the end of the year coming closer, it won’t be long until we’re into the first round of elections in the PCS calendar. Have you considered putting your name forward?

All members of Bootle Taxes Branch are eligible to stand as an industrial relations, health & safety or union learning representative. There are also a number of positions on the Branch Executive Committee, which any member can put themselves forward for.

Details of the positions and how to nominate yourself will have been sent out via email in work. Whether you have a particular skill set or interest, or you just want to get more involved in general, we hope you will consider standing.

All positions are subject to election, so if more people stand than can hold the position(s), then who gets in will be in members’ hands. But no experience is required – the Trades Union Congress offers free training courses for union reps via Wirral Met College, which our Branch Training Officer will ensure those elected get all the details of.

Even if you don’t fancy being a rep, there’s still a place for you if you want to get involved. Handing out flyers outside of the workplace, putting information on people’s desks and relaying information to other members are all jobs that anybody can do. If you want to be a distributor or a point of contact, then please contact our Branch Organiser directly so that they can keep in touch with you.

We are facing a tough year ahead. PCS’s concerns about Jobs & Staffing remain unresolved, and the employer is engaged in an all-out assault upon your union. Facing these challenges requires an active, well organised union, led from the front by its members.

As part of that, alongside reading the information PCS puts out and attending union meetings, let’s see a healthy, democratic election. If you think you’ll be good in a particular role or just fancy having a go, then nominate yourself. Even if you don’t, consider other ways you can be active. Whatever else you do, when it comes to elections – cast your vote!

The union is its members and together we are stronger, so get involved today!
