The review was endorsed by motion A1 at our annual delegate conference in May 2015. It is intended to transform our union so that we have the organising strategy, industrial tactics, staff structures and finances to:
- grow our membership
- support members and activists
- make our campaigns more successful
- increase participation in our democracy, and
- fight and win concessions and improvements for our members.
We are now faced with a majority Tory government and our expectation must be that the climate will only get tougher and more hostile. In this respect, we need to be aware that the trade union bill, if it becomes law, will set a 50% turnout threshold for strike ballots and amounts to the biggest attack on unions for 30 years.
As part of this review the NEC is consulting members over the main areas of the review. The consultation document can be downloaded as a PDF here.
The Branch Executive Committee will be submitting a collective response, but we would also encourage individual members to consider the issues and respond as well. The deadline to respond is Monday, 30 November.
Email your responses to: SRconsultation@pcs.org.uk or post to the general secretary, PCS, 160 Falcon Road, London SW11 2LN.
