Mark Serwotka’s reply to the Branch

BRITAIN-STRIKE-INDUSTRYOn 10 February, the Bootle Taxes Branch Executive Committee voted to oppose the suspension of national elections by the National Executive Committee. That position was unanimously endorsed by members at our Annual General Meeting on 24 February.

After the BEC took this decision, the branch chair and secretary wrote to General Secretary Mark Serwotka on behalf of the committee raising a number of questions about the suspension and how it was done by the NEC. We have now received a reply from Mark and as we advised him in our initial letter we are now posting it online for all members to see.

Now that the AGM has endorsed the branch’s decision, the key debate will be the one which takes place at the union’s annual Conference in May. However, our letter and Mark’s reply are useful reference points among the many pieces already published which will help inform that debate.
